Office Mobile for iPhone

office mobile iphone

On June 14 2013 Microsoft release Office Mobile for iPhone. Currently Office Mobile is only available in the US iTunes store. The app is free as long as you have an Office 365 subscription if you do not you will need to sign up for one in order to use the app.

I personally think that the fact you can now get Microsoft Office on a mobile device such as the iPhone is great as it will allow users to edit all of their documents on the go. Sure there have been applications like Documents To Go and other solutions like that. They can sometimes work well but in my experience they are at a disadvantage because sometime you lose some of the styling of the document. But now that Office is officially available for iPhone this should no longer be a problem.

I quickly tried out the app and it works exactly as you would expect. Whenever you save a file you save it to your SkyDrive. In case you don’t know what SkyDrive is the simplest explanation is that it is a program that will create a folder on your computer and anything you save in it you can access via the internet or via another computer or device you have setup with SkyDrive.

As long as your files are saved in SkyDrive you can access them pretty much anywhere. Another advantage is that you are not limited only to SkyDrive. For example if you get an email with a document you can chose to edit it with Office Mobile. Once you are done you can save it into your SkyDrive or just simply use the share function and email the file back.

Office Mobile includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

There is no word yet on when it will be available in Canada or when it will be available for Android. There have been rumors that it will come out in fall 2014 for Android.

E3 2013: The new console generation

e3Last year at E3 we saw a lot of really good looking games coming out. Those games still haven’t reached us yet for the most part, but the reason for that is clear. A great number of them are waiting for the new generation of consoles.

We’ve already had our new Nintendo WiiU consoles for some time now, and on a Nintendo Direct 40 minute presentation we were offered a glimpse at the next generation of games for it. Mostly first party offerings of their classic game titles, including a personal favourite: Super Smash Bros. Continue reading “E3 2013: The new console generation” »

Windows 8.1: What will it do for you?

Windows81Windows 8 has been out for some time now with mixed reactions, even among our own technicians here at Tech Squad. But those of us who have taken to using it full time (or at least full time at work), the first major update is on its way.

There have been many rumours as to what Windows 8.1, formerly codenamed Windows Blue, is going to be exactly. Many people feared it was a new version of Windows, or a paid update, or something along those lines. Fortunately though, Windows 8.1 is nothing more than a new naming convention for something we’re all used to from previous versions of Windows; a service pack. Coldcall scams still truckin’

3046a79e46629dbcd8a6259c6653A woman gets a call from a heavily Indian accented woman from something called ‘Windows Security’. Apparently something happened and she has errors that will invalidate her license. She can get it fixed of course, but its a costly endeavour.

Heard this one before? So have many Calgarians, and people all around the world. These calls have been going out to many of our clients for some time now. And though there’s recently been a lull in their attacks, they are continuing to occur consistently and even in some cases evolving.
